Real Madrid transfer news: Inter boss Luciano Spalletti reveals Luka Modric has expressed interest in joining Serie A side

INTER MILAN boss Luciano Spalletti has revealed that Real Madrid star Luka Modric expressed interest in a switch to the San Siro this summer.

The 32-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to the Serie A side, but recent reports suggest he is set to stay in Spain with Los Blancos preparing to double his salary.

While it has also been claimed that should he fail to secure a new deal at the Bernabeu, he is ready to call time on his Real career.

Speaking after the 1-0 pre-season win against Atletico Madrid last night, Spalletti confirmed that Modric was keen on a move, but stressed he believes he will stay.

He said: “About Modric, it is the sporting director who deals with that. I am not sure how this will finish.

“That he has shown interest to join us is obviously positive, we are trying to create the right conditions for him to join Inter Milan.

“If Real Madrid wants to hold onto him, we would have to accept that, and I think that will happen.

“It does not matter so much, we are still a strong team, even if he does not join.”

Modric was in action for Julen Lopetegui’s men last night – playing the final 15 minutes as Real beat AC Milan 3-1.

Should the Champions League holders offload the Croatian international, it has been reported that they will look to bring Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen to the Spanish capital.
